According to reports, customers at a McDonalds restaurant in Hong Kong ate next to the body of a homeless woman for hours before noticing that she had passed.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning and staff were alerted after her body was found slumped at a table in the restaurant.
According to The Mirror, the woman had been left for seven hours before staff or members of the public noticed that she was unresponsive.
McDonalds Hong Kong senior director Wendy Lam said in a statement that the company did not disturb customers so that they can enjoy their meals in peace.
The statement read: "McDonald’s Hong Kong would like to express our grief over the unfortunate incident at our Ping Shek Estate restaurant.
"We welcome everyone to visit our restaurants any time.
"In order to provide a pleasant dining environment, we would not disturb our customers, but our service will be offered promptly upon request."
Homelessness has increased in Hong Kong in recent years, and McDonalds often welcomes homeless people into their restaurants as a warm and safe environment.
