Ethan Ferrier, four, has written a letter to the thieves who stole his beloved springer-cocker spaniel cross Fern.

The heartbroken little boy has only just learned to write, after starting school in September, but his message couldn’t be clearer.

He wrote: “To the bad men who took Fern, Can Fern come home now please. I miss her.”

Fern was taken from their home in Chessington, Surrey, in April 2013, but Ethan’s mother said it hasn’t gotten any easier for her little boy.

Jodie Ferrier said: “He is still devastated 22 months later. The letter is the first thing he wanted to write.

“He sees me on the internet trying to push the campaign and asks me what I’m dong. I say, ‘I’m writing to people to try and find Fern’ and then he said ‘can I write a letter to the people who have got her?’”

It might be coming up to two years since Fern went missing, but Jodie insists the family will never give up looking for her.

She said: “When you have a little boy who is asking you every day when she is coming home, you can’t give up. It does happen – they do turn up.

“We are doing things like this to appeal to people because somebody somewhere knows something, I’m absolutely positive. Dogs don’t just vanish like this.”
