Today the man who was survived an attack by a white extremist, who planned to behead him to avenge the murder of British soldier Lee Rigby’ spoke of his terror following the attack earlier this year.
Zack Davies “intended to behead” Dr Sarandev Bhambra after targeting him in a branch of Tescos in Mold, North Wales in January. Davies ran at Dr Bhambra from behind and struck him with a 30cm machete. Incredible, Dr Bhambra managed to escape and today Davies was sentenced to life behind bars and he will serve a minimum of 14 years in prison.
During the attack Davies, 26, screamed “white power”, “this is for Lee Rigby” and “this is revenge”.
Speaking outside of court, Dr Bhambra said: “On January 14, 2015 a white supremacist Zack Davies tried to kill me because of my ethnicity.
“Until now I've purposely shunned the media spotlight as the whole barbaric incident has been traumatic and stressful. I've been undergoing intense physiotherapy and rehabilitation under the care of Professor Simon Kaye and his team in Leeds.”
Dr Bhambra went on to say how he believed he had been targeted by Davies.
“While Zack Davies has been convicted and sentenced for attempting to kill me, I'm convinced that the background behind the incident has not been explored fully,” he continued.
“Was I targeted? Mold is a small market town, Davies may have been aware of my movements.
“By his own admission, Davies was a man that harboured a real hatred for non-whites. He had a history of violence and always carried a knife. He was, by his own admission, known to the police. Could this attack have been prevented?”
He finished his statement paying tribute to the family of Lee Rigby.
“[Davies] is a coward first and foremost,” Dr Bhambra said. “He attacked me from behind and intended to behead me. By the grace of God I remained conscious and was able to defend myself.
“It is abhorrent that he has claimed that he tried to kill me in Lee Rigby's honour. My thoughts and prayers go out to Lee Rigby and his family.”
