A woman who sexually assaulted her own baby daughter, before sending the pictures to her paedophile boyfriend she had met online, faces nine years in jail.

The woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the little girl, appeared in court alongside Paul Whalley yesterday.

The 38-year-old from West Yorkshire pleaded guilty to two charges of involving a small child in sexual activity, and three of making and distributing indecent images of a child.

Whalley, 30, pleaded guilty to inciting her to perform sexual activity with a child, and downloading indecent images of her daughter, as well as other children.

He has been ordered to serve six years and six months in prison.

Speaking after the sentencing DC Rebecca Smith from the Harrogate Serious Crime Team, said:

"No child should ever have to suffer the abuse inflicted by those two offenders.

"What they did was unspeakable and incomprehensible and the court result today means they can no longer cause harm and misery to anyone.

"North Yorkshire Police will work relentlessly around the clock to make sure people who pose a threat to our children face the full force of the law."
