Inspiring wildfire survivor bounces back after 65% burns: ‘My fight continues’

A woman who received burns to 65% of her body has revealed she is fighting back against her injuries, three years after being caught in a wildfire.

Turia Pitt was trapped in a remote gorge while running a 100km marathon in Australia, when a wildfire surrounded her.

The 26-year-old suffered severe burns in the incident, going into a two month coma and then undergoing over 100 operations afterwards.

But Turia has revealed she is obviously made of stronger stuff than most, as she is battling back from her horrific injuries to live the life she's always wanted.

The former part-time model and Miss Australia contestant is creating a film with Mark Brightwell, documenting Turia's return to surfing, which she has always loved.

'I've always had such a strong connection with the water and that was something that I definitely lost during the 2011 Kimberley ultra marathon.'

'This movie is not just about surfing, it's about getting back into the water, reclaiming my fitness and shooting in some of the world's best surfing locations' Turia added.

The film, which is aptly titled Phoenix, will capture Turia returning to the water and regaining her love of the sea, something which filmmaker mark hopes will 'give people who've suffered tragedy hope and show them there is light at the end of the tunnel.'
