Rachel Poole, who was nine months pregnant, was in her kitchen speaking to husband Justin Poole, who was stationed in South East Asia at the time, when she was attacked from behind by Corey Bernard.

The 19-year-old had reportedly been hiding in her house before she came home, before attacking her in the kitchen.

However 31-year-old Rachel recognised her attacker and repeatedly screamed his name to her husband, before being stabbed multible times in the body and face, leaving her in critical condition.

Rachel managed to call police and an ambulance, whilst her husband contacted authorities, with Moss being located by Fort Bliss Military Police and turned over to El Paso police.

Moss reportedly told investigators that Rachel owed him money for vehicle repairs. He was later charged with criminal attempted capital murder.

Rachel is still said to be in critical condition

Meanwhile Texan-based Rachel fought for her life, and doctors were forced to bring the planned caesarean section forward to save the baby.

Rachel, who is still in critical condition, gave birth to a healthy daughter named Isabella via c-section over the weekend.

However her husband, who flew back immediately after witnessing the attack, has revealed that Rachel is still too ill to hold or see the baby, and has been left potentially blind in one eye, as well as suffering a collapsed lung and a displaced vertebrae.

Justin showed off new daughter Isabella on Facebook

On Facebook on Saturday, Justin Poole showed pictures of his newborn daughter and recovering wife.

On one photo of his wife, he wrote: ‘My wife fought back so that her daughter could live. But she can not see out of her eye still at all. And can't see or hold her baby until she recovers.’

Tragically, he added that the couple's dog had died after being left alone in the house following the attack on Rachel Poole.

The couple before the attack

Continuing to keep supporters updated via his Facebook page, the service man added:

‘My wife is my wife til I'm no longer breathing.

‘No man can change that and though I was not here to protect her this time it will never happen again that's my word.’
