It formed off the coast in Florida, but now the storm is said to be heading northeastwards to the UK.
Weather experts have warned that Britain could be hit by the storm by the end of next week as it moves across the Atlantic.
Independent weather forecaster MeteoGroup has claimed, “Hurricane Gaston is the latest hurricane to develop in the Atlantic and has reached its peak with gusts up to 85 to 90mph.
“It will eventually head north then northeastwards towards to the UK as a low pressure system, potentially disrupting our weather next week.”
As it weakens, the hurricane will bring with it gusts and gales of up to 70mph, which is expected to arrive by September 3.
Hurricane Gaston had previously weakened down to a tropical storm, before regaining strength this weekend as it moved across the Atlantic Ocean and now it’s threatening to strengthen further.
Weather expert Ian Fergusson tweeted his concerns about the storm to keep us in the loop, writing, “What Hurricane Gaston does not week is v unclear: * could * influence UK weather directly or indirectly by Fri-weekend”.
The news comes after a disappointing bank holiday weekend, starting with soaring sunshine before strong showers arrived on Sunday.
We’re sorry to say that the wet weather looks set to continue, as Martin Bowles, Operational Metereologist at the Met Office, explains, “This afternoon, heavy showers are expected in the Midlands which will then move further north as the day goes on.
"This rain will continue, in the north of England, over night.”
So much for a sunny bank holiday.
