Fisherman Geoff Brooks posted two images of his kill onto his Facebook page, claiming that the tiger shark was found ‘off 7 mile Beach’ in New South Wales.
‘As far as I’m aware; it was a kill order on a shark here on the far north coast that was identified as being responsible for a local attack,’ wrote Geoff.
But there has been some controversy over who actually killed and photographed the shark, with another fisherman named Matthew saying he pulled that shark out of the water ‘a while ago’ - taking the jaws with him as a souvenir.
The fisherman, known as Matthew, said that he had actually set his sights on a smaller hammer-head shark, but as he tried to catch it the tiger shark appeared and ate the smaller one.
Australia has a controversial history with sharks, having implemented a cull of the creatures just last year - over fears large species were coming close to humans on the coast.
But conservationists have warned that killing sharks will have no impact on the numbers interacting with humans each year - and will put some species under even more strain.
During the cull in 2014, 170 sharks were caught, with the largest 50 being killed. Controversially, no Great Whites were caught during the cull, which are one of the few species that have attacked humans.
