Three people have been taken to hospital after a Delta flight skidded off the runway in icy conditions at La Guardia airport in New York.

Out of the 127 passengers onboard the Delta 1086 flight two dozen people reportedly suffered minor injuries whilst three other passengers were treated in hospital.

The flight was arriving in New York after taking off from Atlanta, Georgia.

New York Giants player Larry Donell was onboard the aircraft during the terrifying incident.

He said afterwards: "I feel fine physically and hopefully all the other passengers did not have any significant injuries.

“We were all shocked and alarmed when the plane started to skid, but most importantly, as far as I know, all of the passengers and flight crew were able to exit the plane safely.”

A spokesperson for Delta released a statement following the accident, reading: "Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe.

“Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident."
