It’s reported that around 2000 migrants attempted to storm the entrance to the Channel Tunnel in Calais on Monday night. The operator Eurotunnel confirmed that during the incident there were a number of casualties, as desperate people tried to fight their way in.

In recent months the situation at French port has worsened and it has been called a “humanitarian crisis” by some commentators. Every day, Eurotunnel are facing more people who are attempting to gain access to the Tunnel to come to the UK.

A spokesperson for the company said it happened “between midnight and 6am” on Monday and said “It was the biggest incursion effort in the past month and a half.

“All our security personnel, that is nearly 200 people, as well as police were called in.”

Another added: “There was some damage to our fences - which we'll have to repair - as they tried to board shuttles. Fortunately, there wasn't any damage to shuttles. Unfortunately, a number of people were injured.

“It is an almost nightly occurrence.”

It’s believed that this summer eight migrants have tried while trying to reach Britain this way while AFP report that around 3000 migrants are camped there.
