Lassana Bathily, from Mali, worked in the Kosher supermarket where gunmen took shoppers hostage, killing four.

During the siege, the shop attendant, 24, hid six people in the store’s freezer, turning off the light and telling them all to stay calm.

Lassana has been hailed a hero for his actions

He then escaped and began looking for help.

After he was initially suspected of being an accomplice of the terrorists, he was eventually able to explain to police what was happening inside the store.

‘It’s not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims, we’re all in the same boat.’

‘I helped Jews. We’re all brothers’ Lassana told French TV.

‘It’s not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims, we’re all in the same boat.’

Since news broke of his heroic act to save others, a petition was started to give Bathily citizenship in France.

The Interior Ministry got wind of the petition and have fast-tracked his request for citizenship, confirming he will become a French national.

An official ceremony will be held on January 20.
