Little Lexi Parker remained calm after she could not rouse her mother Nicola, 25, following the accident.

The little girl calmly put on a DVD for little brother Harry, two, and one-year-old sister Amelia, before calling the police.

Speaking about the incident last month in Blackburn, a recovered Ms Ellis, said yesterday:

‘I owe Lexi my life.’

‘I am so thankful and proud of Lexi for what she did. She stayed very calm and was very brave to ring 999 to get help.

‘She had recently had a talk at school about the emergency services which meant she knew what to do in this situation.

‘I owe Lexi my life.’

‘Without her quick thinking and bravery, who knows how this situation could have ended. I could have been left unconscious for hours.’

Little Lexi has been awarded a police commendation for her actions.
