Researchers commissioned by Intrepid Travel polled 2,000 adults and found that on average, guilt strikes on three occasions each week, with the feeling lingering for more than two hours each time.
However, there were some notable regional differences when it came to guilt around the UK.
It turns out people who live in the West Midlands are most prone to feeling guilty.
Not only did West Midlands residents confess to feeling guilty for more than three hours a week - more than double that of their mates over in the East Midlands - but one in ten also admitted they've felt guilty on someone else’s behalf – more than anywhere else in the UK!
Researchers also quizzed participants on how much they 'give something back' as a way of assuaging their guilt.
Londoners and East Anglians claimed to carry out selfless deeds around four times each week, but the trophy for most generous region goes to Yorkshire, where residents said they do an of six acts of kindness a week.
What a lovely lot!
