A grandfather has shot three men after they broke into his family home and attempted to rape his granddaughter.
The 67-year-old from Lumberton, North Carolina, managed to defend his family by grabbing a gun from one of the men during the incident.
He shot and killed 20-year-old Jamie Lee Faison and injured his accomplices, named by police as Brandon Carver Stephens and Jamar Hawkins.
Sadly, the grandfather was injured during the violent raid and is reportedly in critical condition.
A police spokesperson told local news in the southern state that the men broke in wearing black clothing and locked the pensioner and his wife into a cupboard.
They then tried to rape the couple’s young granddaughter, who was also in the house at the time.
According to the Metro, a relative of the family wrote on Facebook: “He is out of surgery but is still critical in ICU.
“Thanks everyone for all your prayers just keep them coming.
“But the intruders have been caught.”
The two surviving robbers are currently being treated in hospital for their gunshot wounds.
