The girl’s father from Mailsi in Pakistan, said that he had taken his daughter to his local Shaheedanwala seminary, where 70 children from nearby villages were also enrolling.

On request of the chief cleric, he dropped off the girl to his office so she could be introduced to the other children.

However when he returned at noon, he reportedly found the door to the cleric’s office locked and the cleric missing.

When he broke down the office door, he found his daughter lying unconscious on the floor.

District Police Officer Sadiq Ali Dogar later confirmed that a police team had arrested the suspect from another seminary where he had been hiding.

Two other clerics from nearby seminaries have also gone missing.

Authorities said they are holding the suspect at an ‘undisclosed location’ due to threats of violence from neighbours.

Following the incident, local residents staged a protest and announced a boycott of all seminaries.
