The girlfriend of Germanwings pilot Andreas Lubitz has spoken out days after he flew a passenger jet into the French Alps, killing all 150 people onboard.
The 26-year-old stewardess, who’s identity remains anonymous, told a German newspaper that Lubitz said to her last year: “One day I will do something that will change the whole system, and then all will know my name and remember it.”
She added: “I never knew what he meant, but now it makes sense.”
The couple dated for five months as they flew around Europe.
The stewardess told Bild: “We spoke a lot about work and then he became another person. He became agitated about the circumstances in which he had to work, too little money, anxiety about his contract and too much pressure.”
Her comments come after investigators allegedly found ‘torn up sick notes’ in his home from the day before the crash.
Lubiz’s ex-girlfriend said: “The torn up sick notes make sense now to me and were a clear sign that he did not want to admit that his big dream of flying as a captain was over.”
16 German school children were amongst those killed in the crash, along with 3 Brits.
In light of the tragedy, several tabloids have been slammed for reporting on depression in a 'damaging' way, with campaigners calling for further awareness of depression and how to seek help.
