Wind and rain will sweep the country ahead of this weekend, as two storms pass by the northern coast.

The Met Office has warned the public of the storm

The alert from the Met Office warned the public of ‘potential for disruption to transport and power supplied and the possibility of structural damage. Large waves may also lead to dangerous conditions along some coasts.’

According to experts, the intense weather is being caused by a strong jet stream which has been started by cold conditions in the US.

But despite this being bad news for anyone in the north and parts of Scotland, Londonders will see unseasonably warm temperatures in the next few days - basking in a balmy 15C. The average temperature for January in the capital is 6.9C.

Mark Wilson of the Met Office said the wind speeds seen in some parts of the country would be similar to those seen at the end of 2013, when tens of thousands of homes were left without power, trees fell and there were mass floods.
