Lee Webb, 23, confused his son’s rucksack with another - which happened to be full of drug paraphernalia, including cocaine, mephedrone and weighing scales.

Staff at the nursery opened the toddler’s bag at snack time to discover that in place of sandwiches, the little boy had Class A and Class B drugs in his possession.

Noticing his mistake, the tree surgeon rushed to the Smarty Pants Nursery in Folkestone, Kent, to try and retrieve the offending item, but staff refused to give it to him.

By the time police raided Webb’s home later that day, they noted the 23-year-old had a solicitor’s number written on his hand.

Jailing him at Canterbury Crown Court, Judge James O’Mahony said: ‘You sent your three-year-old son to nursery with a rucksack containing a significant quantity of Class A and B drugs. In effect, you sent your son there with a drug dealer’s kit.’

‘Your stupidity put children at risk and I consider the potential exposure to children of these drugs so serious only an immediate custodial sentence can be justified.’
