It should have been the happiest day of Erica and Carlos Morales’ lives as they finally became parents for the first time.
But Erica, 36, who conceived through IVF, went into hypovolemic shock after giving birth to her son and three daughters. She died an hour later.
Devastated Carlos, who had to miss the sudden birth of his children due to work, told People: “We were so excited to start our family. And then it all came crashing down.
“I went from having the best day of my life to the next morning experiencing the worst day of my life. My four babies came into the world and then my wife died.”
Now heartbroken Carlos has to put on a brave face and be there for his babies. He named them Carlos Jr, Tracey, Paisley and Erica.
He said: “I’m learning everything from how to give them a bath, CPR, feeding and how to manage their sleep schedule.
“Everything I do now is for my children. Our family and friends have been very supportive too.”
Carlos met Erica in 2006 and, despite a language barrier, he knew she was the one.
“I didn’t speak any English and she didn’t speak any Spanish,” he said. “But I asked her to dance and she said yes.”
He gave Erica his number but she threw it out. However a twist of fate brought them back together again and that’s where their story began.
She learned Spanish and he learned English and they were married in Las Vegas in 2007.
Carlos will be returning to work and his friend Nicole Todman has set up a **GoFundMe **page to help him cope with costs of looking after four babies on a single income.
