Jamie Ellison, who lives in Cheltenham, issued an appeal for information after his son was struck by a car on Friday.
I beg anyone who was on Hester's Way Road between 8:30 and 8:40 ... doing school runs or catching a bus etc to please call the police and help find who did this to my little man x thank you x,’ he pleaded on the Gloucestershire Echo’s Facebook page.
Police meanwhile began their investigations, as Ellison was left to worry about his seriously injured infant son.
However, in a bizarre turn of events, CCTV footage revealed that Jamie, who also has two daughters, backed into son AJ while he was trying to get out of his driveway.
Ellison claims he did not see or hear the collision, and the first he knew of the incident was when his girlfriend told him AJ had been found at the side of the road with serious injuries.
Writing on Facebook, the father said: ‘Imagine how I feel right now to be told that I accidentally ran over my own son. Think about that. That guilt will be with me forever.’
Luckily, AJ has now been released from hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
‘Thanks to those lovely worse of support and encouragement aj is home now’ Jamie wrote on the social network.
‘Cheers once to great friends for looking out for us x.’
Police are not treating the incident as suspicious, stating that no further action will be taken at this time.
