Both of his children require a liver transplant to survive - but Michael, who could donate part of his liver, will only be able to do so once. Because of this, he and his family are now faced with the agonising choice of which child to save.

The devastated family say they cannot bear to choose between their two children, who they adopted from Vietnam when they were babies, so they are leaving it in the hands of doctors - who will decide which child is the best candidate for the operation.
