The American man revealed that he had earlier noted a mother and daughter crying during their meal, but did not know why.

However whilst picking up the bill from another diner, the waiter noticed a note was included with the money.

He explained:

'A mother and daughter started crying mid-meal'

‘While waiting tables tonight, a mother and daughter started crying mid-meal. I had no idea what happened until a single guy at the table next to them handed me this note with his bill. Faith in humanity, restored.’

The note slipped to the waiter by the diner reads:

‘Do me favor and bring me their check [bill] too. Someone just got diagnosed. Don’t tell them.’

The good Samaritan anonymously paid his fellow diner’s bill, after hearing the mother and daughter reveal a terminal diagnosis to each other.

This is not the first such incident to warm our hearts.

Just last month a grateful mother revealed a touching note sent to her by a fellow diner.

Ashley England was out for dinner with her 8-year-old son who suffers from severe epilepsy, when he began to get ‘a little rowdy’.

‘I'll try to do this without crying. But another customer has paid for your bill'

However when Ashley went to pay for her bill, she found it had already been paid.

The waitress explained to Ashley:

‘I'll try to do this without crying. But another customer has paid for your bill tonight and wanted me to give you this note.’

The note reads:

‘God only gives special children to special people.’
