After campaigning from users, Facebook has announced it will launch a dislike button as a counter to its like feature.

Owner Mark Zuckerberg, who previously ruled out adding the button to the site, said that the firm has now changed its mind on the issue.

‘I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years,’ he said.

‘Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it.’

The Like button is a popular feature of Facebook

Speaking during a Q&A session at Facebook HQ, Mark admitted they worried that a dislike button would make the network too much like Reddit - where users can upvote or downvote posts.

Zuckerberg added that the idea of ‘downvoting’ also goes against the community they have tried to create on Facebook.

‘You don’t want to do through the process of sharing some moment that was important to you in your day and have someone ‘downvote’ it,’ Zuckerberg said.

Facebook confirmed that they will begin testing with a small group of users soon, with the focus on making the dislike button a force ‘for good, not a force for bad.’

And there’s bad news for diet lovers, as recent research suggests the posts that are most likely to get a ‘dislike’ are braggy posts about exercise and healthy eating.

Next for most hated were people who shared details of their every meal, while cryptic statuses designed to get attention are also universally hated.

Here are the other most hated, according to*** Sweatband.com:***

Constant engagers

Got those Facebook friends who comment on EVERYTHING you do? I mean cheers for the interest guys, but chill out a little.

Self promoters

Constantly trying to push their business/blog/babysitting service through the network. You’ve heard of linked in, right?
