Rachel Dolezal, who wa forced to resign as leader of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP), came clean about her ‘black heritage’ on national television.

Speaking to hosts of The Real, Miss Dolezal said she had seen herself as black from a very early age and still self-identified as black.

"I acknowledge that I was biologically born white to white parents, but I identify as black," she said, admitting that she began to identify as black at the age of 5.

“I was drawing self-portraits with the brown crayon instead of the peach crayon."

Rachel, who previously lied and claimed that an African American man was her biological father, was outed by her white parents earlier this year.

During the interview, she elaborated on what it's like to identify as black in her day-to-day life.

"I check white and black [on forms], because we all have human origins in the continent of Africa," she said.

"The police mark black on my traffic tickets."

Insisting that she identifies as a black woman, and that people should respect that, she added: “Sometimes how we feel is more powerful than how we're born.

"Blackness can be defined as philosophical, cultural, biological, you know, it's a lot of different things to a lot of different people."

However show host Loni Love wasn’t impressed by Rachel’s comments, saying that the former president of the Spokane National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People could never truly understand the plight of black women.

"I'm black. I can't be you. I can't reverse myself," she said. "Let me tell you, Rachel, if the police stop me … you can throw that off and show that little light, nice, fine hair up under [your weave].

“You might get away. I may not, I may not even make it in the jail."

However, while Loni Love was unimpressed by Rachel’s deception, she has been praised by other high-profile personalities.

In the November issue of Vanity Fair, Rihanna said that she viewed the activist and artist as a "bit of a hero" because she "kind of flipped on society a little bit."

"Is it such a horrible thing that she pretended to be black?" Rihanna asked in the interview.

"Black is a great thing, and I think she legit changed people's perspective a bit and woke people up."

Do you think it's wrong for Rachel Dolezal to say she identifies as being black?
