21-year-old Kimberly Davis was reportedly driving through a small town in Australia whilst texting seven different phone numbers when she hit the cyclist from behind.
The young woman reportedly didn’t see the warning lights on the back of the cyclist’s bike before crashing into them.
According to local police, the driver had used her phone 44 times during her trip.
Though the driver alerted emergency services, she refused to stay with the cyclist and left him lying by the side of the road waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
The cyclist was left with a spinal fracture causing him to have to wear a spinal cage for several months.
According to an Australian paper, the texting driver was less than impressed by the damage done by her car and showed no sympathy for the cyclist she left lying by the side of the road. ‘
I just don't care because I've already been through a lot of bullshit and my car is like pretty expensive and now I have to fix it,’ she said.
‘I'm kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car. I don't agree that people texting and driving could hit a cyclist. I wasn't on my phone when I hit the cyclist.’
Kimberly Davis was fined $4,500 and lost her license for 9 months following the incident.
