34-year-old Justin Ross Harris was charged with murder after he left his young son Cooper in a hot car for 7 hours.

The 22-month-old died of heat exhaustion, the court heard, whilst Harris was allegedly ‘sexting’ other women.

According to the prosecution, Harris sent a text message to a woman online saying “I love my son and all but we both need escapes”. Hours later his son was dead.

Assistant District Attorney Chuck Boring told a judge: "It can’t be more apparent than in his own words.

"He loved his son and all but they both needed escapes."

Harris was arrested last year

Harris has confessed to being a ‘sex addict’ since his son was found dead last in June last year.

But his lawyer has argued that Harris’ affairs had no connection with his Cooper’s death.

He called the tot’s passing a “Horrible and gut-wrenching incident”.

After his arrest, Harris told police that he forgot to drop Cooper off at daycare before making his way to work. He then discovered his body when he left the office later that day.

The judge at Cobb County Superior Court has set a trial date for Februrary 22.
