Despite a public backlash against the 26-year-old’s return to football, it was announced this morning that Ched will be back on the pitch for the next two and a half years with League One team Oldham.
Last night, sports presenter Charlie Webster appeared on Channel 4 to send Oldham officials to ‘listen to society,’ and not sign the convicted sex offender to their team.
Webster famously resigned as a patron of Sheffield United football club after they allowed Evans to train in their ground following his release from prison.
But it seems her message, and the 60,000 signatures on a petition asking Oldham not to sign him, have gone unheeded.
Katie Hopkins (of course) leapt to the footballer’s defence as the news hit Twitter, writing: "2.5 year contract for Ched. YES! To the 60,000 protest ores - clicking on a petition - your lust for vengeance was based on jealous. Go Ched!"
She continued: "Listen you loons, it doesn’t matter what Ched did. He served his time. You are cross because he isn’t working in McDonalds. End of."

Chuff off. If Ched apologised that wouldn’t be good enough for you either. You are used to politicians apologising. Some of us stand strong."
According to reports, Ched could received as much as £1,500 a week to play with the League 1 team, although his terms are being negotiated.
