Last year, Colchester was rocked by two murders, where the victims were brutally stabbed to death.

Nahid Almanea, 31, was attacked in June 2014 as she walked along the Salary Brook Trail towards the University of Essex. She was stabbed 16 times.

James Attfield, 33, suffered over 100 stab wounds when he was killed on Riverside Path in Colchester.

Police launched a murder investigation but found nothing until today, when it was revealed this morning they had arrested a boy, on the same trail that Nahid was killed on, on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

Later, he was arrested on the suspicion of the murders of Nahid and James and is being held in custody for further question.

The arrest of the 16-year-old is a major move forward for the police. Officers working on the case still want to hear from people who may have any information relating to the investigation.

People are asked to call Essex Police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
