Peter McCathie was only 14-years-old when he was struck by lightning on a boat trip, and now has another highly unlikely event under his belt - after winning the lottery this year.

Speaking of the moment he was hit as a teenager, Peter said: ‘We were out on a boat trip and when we got in the water was pretty shallow so we locked it in the lake just off shore. i was trying to lock the boat up, it was a very sunny day, there was one big white cloud in the sky and the lightning bolt came through the trees and hit me.'

But despite being one of the few people hit by lightning in their lifetimes, McCathie went onto win $1 million after playing the Canadian Lottery.

Collecting his winnings on Monday, McCathie was pictured with fellow winner Diane Miller, beaming into the camera.

Maths professor at a nearby university said that the probability of these two events happening to one person is ‘approximately 1 in 2.6 trillions.’

Peter plans to use some of his winnings to take his wife of 30 years on a second honeymoon.

What a legend!
