When Josephine Fenton visited Jean Jackson Couture in Manchester with her baby, she was expecting a pleasant dress fitting.
But instead she was left shocked after allegedly being asked to leave the shop when she tried to breastfeed her baby.
The 28-year-old was told she would have to feed her baby outside as the shop was worried she would ‘spurt milk all over the dresses’.
Josephine had called ahead to check it was okay to bring her 7-month-old daughter to her dress fitting.
She told The Mirror: “I called the company a number of times before my appointment and never heard back.
"Then when I got them on the phone five minutes before my appointment I explained that I might need to breast feed Ella.
“The owner’s mum said I ‘would spurt milk all over the dresses’. I had my loudspeaker on in the car and my fiancée James got very upset. I was just shocked.”
Josephine added: “The owner’s mum was acting quite rudely. She was treating me like there was something wrong with me because I was breastfeeding.”
Many mums have found themselves in similar circumstances, forced to feed their child in unsanitary surroundings due to issues around the subject of breastfeeding.
The shop denies that they asked Josephine to breastfeed outside, but the incident has already sparked outrage amongst breastfeeding campaigners.
