Although it has not been confirmed as the cause of death, the toxicology report did reveal that Peaches took heroin on the day of her death and that it is 'likely' that this was the cause of the tragedy.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham told the inquest, that opened today: 'Recent use of heroin and the levels identified were likely to have played a role in her death.'
The 25-year-old celebrity's inquest was then adjourned until the 23rd July.
The young mother-of-two was found to have heroin in her bloodstream.
It was also revealed that her husband, Tom Cohen, was the one to find her body at their home in Wrotham, Kent - thinking she was asleep when he first entered the property.
Locating her in the spare room, Cohen saw Peaches slumped on the bed with one leg to the floor and called his mother to call emergency services.
The daughter of political activist and musician Bob Geldof was found dead at her home in Wrotham, in the southeast English county of Kent, on April 7. The mother-of-two was found with her youngest child, 11-month-old Phaedra, by her side.
Police found no evidence of drugs paraphernalia at the time, leading to speculation it may have been removed, and it is not known who supplied the drugs. The death is being treated as non-suspicious, unexplained and sudden.
Her husband, Thomas Cohen, had been away with son Astala, 23 months. She was looking after their son Phaedra, about 12 months, at the time.
A post-mortem examination held two days after she died proved inconclusive.
Hours before she died, she posted a picture on Instagram of her as a young girl being held by her mother, Paula Yates, who was also a television personality and columnist.
Peaches Geldof's tragic death mirrors the 2000 death of her mother Paula Yates, who was found dead in her London flat having overdosed on heroin.
The young mum-of-two said in her final interview: “I’m not sure I’ve yet fully made peace with my childhood, but with my mum I have come to terms with everything.
“She had a really difficult time, there are so many parallels between us. Now I can understand everything. I think you have to experience hardships and pain yourself to fully understand people who have been through it and also you can never really experience happiness unless you’ve had that down feeling, too.”
Her death shocked those close to her, as friends have since revealed that she seemed to have found ‘deep fulfilment’ in being a mother and was ‘competed devoted’ to her children.
Speaking about motherhood during the same interview, Peaches added: “Now I am a mum, I can correct those awful parts of my childhood. Before, I was not at peace with myself about it because I was just traumatised.
“But now I have the kids I can heal the situation. It’s so good in every single way.”
Peaches' funeral was held in the village of Davington - at the same church as her mother's - and was attended by celebrities including Kate Moss, Jaime Winstone and Jools Holland.
The mother of two's coffin included a picture of her young family.
Peaches reportedly suffered an overdose in 2008 and had a history of drug taking.
Her friend Freddy McConnel, 18, died of a drugs overdose in 2011. A few months earlier he wrote in his diary: “Peaches is coming over later and I am going to inject for the first time. Perhaps I will die. I hope I don’t.”
Police previously said the death of Sir Bob Geldof's daughter was being treated as non-suspicious, unexplained and sudden.
