The Azucar Bakery in Denver, Colorado, declined to write ‘God hates gays’ on a cake. The customer also requested an offensive picture.

Bill Jack wanted the store to draw a picture of two men holding hands and put a red cross through it.

However Marjorie Silva, owner of the bakery, insists they have done nothing wrong by refusing Mr Jack’s claims.

Speaking to a Denver news agency, Marjorie said: “After I read it, I was like ’No way, we’re not doing this. This is just very discriminatory and hateful.

We never refuse service. We did feel that it was not right for us to write hateful words or pictures against human beings.”

As a result of Mr Jack’s complaint to the Department of Regulatory Agencies, Marjorie’s business is now under investigation.

While she was not comfortable in personally completing Mr Jack’s requests, Marjorie insists she offered to sell him the cakes with icing, so he could adorn them with the messages.

But Mt Jack was not impressed and, Marjorie’s case could be referred to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission if the Department of Regulatory Agencies see fit.

Marjorie added: “It’s unfair that he’s accusing me of discriminating when I think he was the one that is discriminating.”

Despite this, Marjorie has received praise from all over the world for turning down Mr Jack’s homophobic requests.
