Melanie Darnell - aka @fitmomma4two - has garnered a huge following on Instagram thanks to her unusual mummy & baby workouts.

However the self-confessed ‘fit vegan mum of 2’ came under fire this week when she shared a video of herself performing yoga moves as she balanced on top of her baby’s crib.

She wrote: “Putting Sage's bed to use for this fun crib workout!

“No gym, no problem; everyday household items can be great workout equipment.

“As moms we are great at thinking outside the box!”

She added: “Day 4 of the #flexilexifitnessaroundthehouse challenge hosted by @bwmcfitness.”

Instagram users, however, did not react to her video in the way she had expected.

And many were quick to suggest that Melanie had placed her baby in danger by performing the workout.

“What if the crib breaks and your poor child gets hurt just because you wanted a few extra likes on Instagram?” raged one.

Another added: “You can do all of these on the floor where you don't risk breaking the crib and falling on your kid.”

One more said: “Scary. One mistake could be bad. At least take the baby out of the crib!”

And still one more said: “By adding in the variable of gravity you allow your muscle cells to produce more ATP, thus allowing you to perform more reps.

“Just f**ing kidding this is stupid, do it on the floor without putting the child at risk of your stupid ass slipping!”

Speaking to People, Melanie has since defended her actions.

She said: “It makes me a little bit sad, with people thinking that I'm putting my child in danger.

"But in my opinion, I'm not. I'm taking precautions. I know my skill set. I know what I'm safely capable of performing."
