The heartbreaking story of Richard Cushworth and Mercedes Casanellas' missing biological son has dominated the headlines this week. The couple's claims, that their baby had been swapped at birth and sold to traffickers in El Salvador, made news around the world.
But now, they’ve been reunited with their son – after investigators found him – and British missionary Richard, 41, and his wife Mercedes, 39, have tonight spoken for the first time saying they had “no words to express what our heart feels to have our baby at home.”
They added: “Thanks to all who joined our pain and fed our hope.
“Thank God our family has gathered, for the moment we are not allowed to upload photos but soon we'll give more details of the outcome of this miracle.”
The Cushworth’s son was wrongly taken from them three months ago and the couple had accused Dr Alejandra Guidos, their obstetrician-gynacologist, of masterminding a plot to give their child away to traffickers - replacing him with another child following the birth.
Guidos was arrested, and later released pending an investigation into how the couple could have been given the wrong child at a private hospital in San Salvador. Throughout Guidos has protested his innocence and denied any wrongdoing.
It’s come to light that the Cushworths’ biological son had been cared for by another couple who had no idea they were raising the wrong.
Richard’s mother has now revealed they have named their son Moses. Speaking from her home in Delaware, she told the Mirror: “They have named him Moses because he was lost for three months and now he’s been found.
“Moses was hidden away for three months before he was found by the Prince of Egypt. It’s very moving. We have joy and gladness in this house. Praise God, hallelujah our prayers have been answered. I knew that God would bring forth the baby and that’s what he has done.”
