Supermarket chain Asda is investigating a patio set that ‘explodes in sunshine’ after a four-year-old boy was left ‘showered in glass’.

Asda’s homeward brand George sold the ‘Miami’ table top reportedly made out of ‘toughened glass’ to the young family.

During the recent hot weather, the glass ‘exploded’. The mother of a four-year-old boy sitting next to the smashed glass reported the incident to the supermarket.

Worried mum Helen Jordan posted a message on Facebook calling for Asda to recall the product.

Asda are continuing to sell the patio set

She wrote: "I bought this miami patio set from Asda. It was exposed to the sun for a few hours and the glass exploded right beside my 4-year-old son. Luckily he had his hat and sun glasses on."

According to the MirrorOnline, a similar incident occurred in Manchester.

A spokesperson from Asda told the website: "We only use toughened safety glass in our garden furniture and have investigated this rare occurrence.

"We apologise to the customer and will be in touch with a resolution."
