In today’s world of dating apps and websites, stories of chance meetings are becoming rarer. But for some couples love does still strike in the most unlikely of places. In a story that feels straight out of Love Actually, Athena and Angelo describe how they were struck by cupid’s arrow at Heathrow airport.

"Looking back, I would never in my wildest dreams have imagined that I'd meet the love of my life at Heathrow airport," Athena told us. "I was travelling abroad to see some family, and had filled up two suitcases full of belongings and gifts to take to them. In hindsight, this was kind of silly on my part, because I definitely couldn't walk with two big suitcases. But I'm glad I did pack so heavily, otherwise I probably wouldn't have met Angelo."

Athena was making her way into Heathrow airport when she was approached by her now husband, who offered to help her wheel her suitcase to the departures desk. "He was quite literally like my knight in shining armour (except he was wearing jeans and a T-shirt)".

During their very brief encounter to the departures desk, Angelo and Athena exchanged names and chatted about the countries they were both heading to, before departing their separate ways. "I was kind of bummed that I wouldn't get to see Angelo again, because it's not every day that you meet someone so kind (plus, I thought he was attractive too, and that's always a bonus!)."

But, would you believe, Athena and Angelo had a SECOND chance meeting that day - this time in the World Duty Free shop. "I was browsing through the makeup section of the shop when I spotted Angelo walking by. I don't know how, but I plucked up the courage to go up to him and ask him if he wanted to join me for a quick coffee." Spoiler: he said yes!

You can pretty much say that the couple hit it off after that. They exchanged numbers and started texting while they were both abroad. As soon as they both landed back on UK soil, they arranged a dinner date. Now married with kids, the couple told us of one tradition they always follow. 'We always, always try to fly from Heathrow airport when going on holiday. Call us crazy, but that airport means something special to us!"
