The side swept braid – get Poppy Delevingne’s look with our simple how – to

This year has seen designers and celebrities reworking the classic plait for a chic new, 2014 feel. We love the halo braid, and we adore the plaited top knot but Poppy Delevingne and her side swept do has given us a whole new hair crush for autumn.

The one sided braid is a total classic and often worn a little tousled and boho, but the model showed off a polished side parting and super sleek braid that was perfect for red carpet.

The key to recreating Poppy’s look is keeping locks as shiny, and sleek as possible which starts from washing right through to styling. Use a smoothing shampoo and conditioner, and then rough dry leaving hair a little damp. Apply a cherry sized amount of smoothing oil from mid length through to ends, part hair from just above one ear and comb over before finishing your blow dry – aiming the nozzle in the same direction as hair to smooth over.

Apply a small amount of smoothing serum over both sides, avoiding getting too close to roots though as this can leave your parting looking a little greasey. Brush hair round to one side, and braid your hair into a classic three strand plait – securing with a clear elastic band.

bed Head Smoothing Serum £10.95, L'Oreal Elvive Smooth Intense Shampoo £3.50, Aussie Dual Peronality Hairspray £3.32, John Frieda Full Repair Flyaway Tamer £10, Garnier Ultimate Blends Sleek Perfector Oil £9.99

Use a grip for any loose strands at the front or back and Spritz a little hairspray over to keep it looking as neat as possible. Avoid any flyaways whilst out and about by keeping the John Frieda Full Repair wand in your bag for last min touch ups too. You’re all set!
