Phillip Bryan Schofield was born in Oldham, Manchester on April 1st, 1962. Speaking about his childhood, Phil said: “I was very much a home bod. I absolutely loved my first day at infant school, but when my mum tried to take me the next day I said, ‘No, I’ve done that, it was fun, but I’m not going again.’ “She said, ‘You have to go every day’ and there was a monumental battle. She’d dress me, I’d run behind the sofa and take my school uniform off, she’d grab me and try again. It was two or three weeks before I finally gave in.”Bless him!

At 19, Phillip left the BBC and emigrated with his family to New Zealand - who can blame him, eh? On arrival he was asked by TVNZ to front their new pop show SHAZAM!. He happily accepted and, before too long, he had also begun a regular radio show AND landed several other TV presenter jobs. Phew!

In 1982, a 22-year-old Phillip was forced to perform CPY on his dad when he suffered a terrifying heart attack.Speaking with The Mirror about the incident later, he said: “It was one of those rare nights I was at home. I was always out. New mates, girlfriend, premieres. Dad went into the kitchen and got a glass of water.“He sat down, put the glass down and went bang. Just like that. Dropped ‘dead’ in his chair. At 49. I laid him on the floor and everything went into tunnel vision.'“From somewhere, it had to be watching TV I suppose, I’d learned the basics of CPR, so I started doing mouth-to-mouth.“I put my hand on his chest and started really thumping. Thumping, then breathing, then thumping a bit more. And then he just made this noise. And I could sense that he’d come back.“I kept him alive until the ambulance men arrived.”

Phillip Schofield was knocked to the floor, kicked and punched at a pop awards show he hosted live on television in 1991. It all kicked off when pop group The Unstoppable Sex Machine were cut off 26 seconds early. Furious, singer Fruitbat kicked his microphone off the stage and started trashing his speakers. As they finally left the stage, Phil remarked cheekily "well, that was original" - only for Fruitback to turn back and rugby tackle him. Minders rushed in to separate the pair and help poor Phil to safety.

Andrew Lloyd Webber asked Phil to take over the role as Joseph from Jason Donovan, despite the fact he hadn’t had any theatrical training. No surprise, Phil leapt at the chance of a lifetime and was soon showing off his stuff on stage.Speaking about that moment, Phil said: “There was every possibility I was going to make an utter a*** of myself in front of 2,500 people at the London Palladium. Half of them were thinking, ‘I hope he pulls this off’ and the other half thought, ‘Tonight we could see something we’ll be talking about for years.’ “It was a massive gamble, but it worked!”After front page rave reviews at the iconic London Palladium, Phillip then took the show on tour around the UK and Ireland from December 1993 until mid 1996; amazing indeed!

In 2008, Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield’s interview with Atomic Kitten’s Kerry latona made headlines after the troubled star appeared confused on the show, slurring her words. After a few minutes of this, Phil attempted to ask if she was ok, admitting that she didn’t seem the person that he and Fern had known previously.Katona denied she had been drinking, saying her slurred speech was because of the prescription drugs she had been taking.Phil later explained: "She arrived very late [and] didn't give anyone any time to sit down and talk to her."She came through to the studio, we kissed her on the cheek and the programme went on air, so at no point had we any idea what condition she might be in."He added that there was "no way that our producer would have allowed that interview to go ahead, had we known the situation she'd found herself in that morning"."The last thing I want to do is to witness a car crash in front of my eyes," he said.□Watch it for yourself here.

In 2008, Phillip Schofield was forced to say goodbye to his beloved father. He was given compassionate leave from This Morning last year during his father’s last days and spent a week at his bedside.“It has been the longest, toughest, saddest week of our lives, made more heartbreaking because we are such a close family,” he said after his death.“I managed to bring him back to life more than 25 years ago so he not only borrowed time, he stole it,' he added, referring to the time he managed to bring Brian around after he suffered a massive heart attack. “In those years he saw his grandchildren grow up and shared countless wonderful times with us all.“If I can be half the man he was I’ll consider that an achievement.”Despite his loss, brave Phillip still fronted the British Soap Awards with Fern Britton – because he said his dad would have wanted him to.

Shortly after Kerry Katona’s interview on ITV’s This Morning, her then-husband Mark Croft posted a statement online saying that Kerry had been left ‘extremely offended’ by the line of questioning. However Phil hit back at Croft, blaming him for the fiasco. He said firmly: “If you are as concerned about your wife as he obviously is and you notice that particular morning her medication or whatever is having an affect on her speech, surely you shouldn’t bring her into a TV studio?”Croft, seething after Phil’s words, fired back: “I’m not f****** interested in what that f****** idiot has to say.”

The This Morning team are simply the best and I will miss them all very much but I am looking forward to spending more time with my wonderful family."Speaking about her decision to leave, Phil said: "I've been lucky enough to work with her for six years and can honestly say they have been amongst the best of my career."

Fern Britton was soon replaced with Holly Willoughby - and she and Phil have forged an amazing friendship as a result.Speaking about his BFF, he said: "It is a very complementary team on-air which comes from the fact we trust each other 100 per cent off-air as well. If you didn’t get on with the person you were doing it with, it would be appalling. “If I was describing our friendship, I would say it is trusting and honest. Holly is an incredibly honest person and she has a brilliantly refreshing way of looking at something."He added: “We have a big group of mutual friends. Holly’s a very good cook and we’re always swapping photos of recipes we’ve tried after a chef has been on the show.”N’aww!

In 2011, Phil co-hosted, with Julie Etchingham, the widely acclaimed ITV coverage of THE ROYAL WEDDING between Kate Middleton and Prince William. And, unsurprisingly, in 2012, he was asked to co-anchor ITVs coverage of the Queens Diamond Jubilee. What an honour!

In 2012, Phillip unwittingly made headlines when he presented David Cameron with a list of names he had found mentioned as paedophiles during "a momentary, cursory glance at the internet”.Misjudging the camera angle, the This Morning presenter inadvertently revealed the names of at least two former senior Tory politicians on the list to 1.2 million viewers of ITV's flagship daytime show. Apologising for the incident, Phillip said: "If any viewer was able to identify anyone listed, I would like to apologise and stress that was never my intention."I was not accusing anyone of anything and it is essential that it is understood that I would never be part of any kind of witch hunt."Unfortunately there may have been a misjudged camera angle for a split second as I showed the Prime Minister some information I had obtained from the internet."I asked for his reaction to give him the opportunity to make a point which he very clearly made about the dangers of any witch hunt."

Phillip was shocked when his brown hair started turning grey aged just 16, so he began colouring it. Eventually, whilst working on This Morning, he decided to scrap the hair dye and go au naturel. Since then, he's "never looked back" - and even beat George Clooney to be crowned sexiest silver fox in a 2012 poll!

Fern Britton wFollowing an appearance on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man, Phil shared a photo of co-star Holly Willoughby apparently passed out next to a bottle of tequila. He tweeted: “This was the end.”The whole thing came about after Holly revealed on the show that she'd drunk Agave tequila before and had escaped a hangover - so the pair decided to see if the same would happen again. The next day they appeared for work as normal at This Morning, with Phil tweeting merrily: “Remarkable! @hollywills was right, I can confirm that the #tequilaexperiment was a success!!”Meanwhile Holly, after some criticism from fans, responded: “For the record... That tequila pic was a joke?... But I did eat a few of the crisps! X.”

You left behind nearly enough to interview! :) x"Sarah replied: "Cheeky! Can't a girl have a haircut?!x."However the friendly banter definitely rubbed up Katie Price the wrong way, who slammed Phil as a ‘bully’ for the comments.Writing in her column at the time, she said: "As much as I like Phillip Schofield I disagree with what he did this week. “After Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding appeared on This Morning he tweeted about how her hair had fallen out on his sofa… I never had him down as a bully but that's exactly what he is."However Phillip, not one to take criticism lying down, was quick yto point out Katie’s mistake - and reprimand HER for fat-shaming Kelly Brook. He wrote: "Oh dear @MissKatiePrice not surprisingly you got that all wrong. I tweeted a pic from the dressing room after Sarah had a haircut! A joke! “People like you @MissKatiePrice should be careful using the word 'bully' especially as you call a woman a 'heffer' in the same column!!"He added: "In conclusion @MissKatiePrice hello pot, this is kettle. You are riddled with double standards… but I still like you."

Let's hope those outraged on behalf of their kids don't take them to the beach this summer."God forbid they might see a woman in a bikini before 9pm and be traumatised by the sight of her cleavage!"

Phillip Schofield, much to the delight of viewers everywhere, spectacularly silenced Katie Hopkins when she appeared on the show to rant about children’s names.Kicking off the debate, Katie said: "I think you can tell a great deal from a name. For me there's certain names that I hear and I think 'urgh.' For me, a name is a shortcut of finding out what class that child comes from and makes me ask 'Do I want my children to play with them?'"There's a whole set of things that go with children like that and that's why I don't like those sorts of children.”But, when she went on to explain that she hated place names, such as Brooklyn or Paris, Phillip stepped in.“Isn’t your daughter called India?” he asked.Katie looked momentarily abashed, before firing back: "That’s not related to a geographical location. It is a very lovely name for a very lovely child."Way to go, Phil!

Phillip Schofield is, nowadays, the undeniable KING of television; from The Cube to This Morning, he’s got all corners covered. And, now, he’s the presenter of controversial hypnosis show You’re Back In The Room, which sees five strangers take on simple challenges to win money. The twist being that they’d all been hypnotised. While the show DEFINITELY divided viewers (Phil himself dubbed it ‘Marmite TV’), he has admitted he loves the show and can’t wait to do more of it.□Is it bad that we can't wait for more of it either?
