Mocktails

The first weekend of January is upon us - well, the first weekend we’re not spending recovering from New Year’s in bed.

And after the first week back at work, it’s time to take it easy, beat the January blues and unwind.

So here’s some ideas of what you can do to keep yourself and the family entertained this rainy weekend.

Watch: The Hateful Eight in cinemas

It’s the latest movie release from Quentin Tarantino, and if you were a fan of his first western film, Django Unchained, then you’ll love The Hateful Eight which is also set in the Wild West, post Civil War. It’s hitting theatres today (January 8) and going by Tarantino’s track record, this is bound to be a violent and grizzly one, so be warned. Further warnings, it’s not yet being shown in Cineworlds, so check out the Odeon listing times HERE.

Throw a mocktail party

Doing dry January? Doesn’t mean you have to put your social life to on hold. Why not invite your girls over for an impromptu mocktail party? You can save on the cash and help each other resist caving in during the drink-free challenge. Need inspiration? Check out our favourite mocktail recipes HERE.

Have a post-Christmas arts ‘n’ crafts session

Still boxes, wrapping paper and ribbon lying about? Blitz the house and entertain the kids this weekend by initiating an art ‘n’craft session using all the Xmas left overs you can piece together.

Experiment with a new healthy recipe

New year, new you, right? Well, with everything being so hectic on the first week back, trying out new, healthier recipes hasn’t taken priority. Take your time this weekend to experiment with something new. Need ideas? See Josie Gibson’s favourite healthy recipes HERE.

Visit: the Art and Alcohol Exhibition at the Tate

If you’re in London this weekend, be sure to swing by this free exhibition – because if we can’t drink this month, why not learn all about the history of the stuff instead? The mind-blowing display looks at the role of alcohol in British art from the 19th century to modern day. Find out more information HERE.

Watch Making A Murderer

It’s the Netflix series that has caught the attention of the entire internet, and it’s getting harder and harder to avoid spoilers everytime you go online. So keep away from the rain and binge-watch this gripping series all Sunday instead until you’re completely up to date. If you loved the first season of the Serial podcast, you’ll love this.

Indulge in a skin detoxifying pamper

After a heavy December, your skin is left feeling (and looking) just as partied out and sluggish as your mind and body. Indulge in a pore-opening facial steam with a drop of tea tree oil following by a radiance-boosting facemask. You’ll feel like a new you.
