'Women give up so much up to the baby when we’re pregnant, which is how it should be, but I wanted my body back and now I’ve done it.'
Hannah Waterman
While pregnant, actress Hannah Waterman saw her weight fall to just 7 1/2st before tests showed she had Type 1 diabetes.
While learning to cope with her condition, and having to inject insulin five times a day to regulate her blood sugar levels, and getting used to life with her new baby, Hannah went up to 10st 10lbs.
Hannah says: “I was 8st when I got pregnant and, at six months, I was only 7 1/2st, but once the diabetes was diagnosed and I started eating correctly for my condition, the weight piled on!”
“I have to watch my diet because of the diabetes, so I have porridge in the morning, bulgur wheat and salad with chicken or fish at lunchtime, then meat or fish in the evening.”
“I want to say, loud and clear, it is not easy losing weight after you’ve had a baby! All those celebs who say they’ve lost weight ‘running round after their kids’ – it’s a lie!”
“I feel I’ve reclaimed myself now. Women give up so much up to the baby when we’re pregnant, which is how it should be, but I wanted my body back and now I’ve done it.”
'I feel better than I have for years.'
Lucy Benjamin
Former Eastenders star Lucy Benjamin put on 3st during her pregnancy. Post-baby, 5ft Lucy went from 9st 5lbs to 7st 6lbs – her ideal weight – on a Closer diet.
Lucy gave birth to second daughter Rosie and although she managed to lose over a stone in the first six weeks, she was still a size 12-14, and says she was horrified when her older daughter Bessie pointed out her belly: “We were in Spain for a holiday and Bessie looked at my tummy and asked me if I was having another baby. It made me cringe and I felt quite panicky.”
Lucy embarked on a low calorie-diet devised by Closer nutritionist Juliette Kellow. She was on a standard 1,250 calories per day weight-loss plan, but added on 500 calories because she was breastfeeding.
Her typical daily diet was a bowl of Shreddies with semi-skimmed milk for breakfast, a chicken sandwich on wholegrain bread for lunch and a vegetable stir-fry or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for dinner.
After adopting the healthier diet and regularly exercising, Lucy is now back in her size 6 skinny jeans and says: “I feel better than I have for years.”
'I can see the weight-loss around my middle and face, and when I put on my knickers I don’t have an over-hang!'
Billie Faiers
When TOWIE’s Billie Faiers felt she'd gained around 4lbs after snacking on junk food while filming, she turned to Closer to slim down.
Billie's ideal weight is around 8st 4lbs, and we devised an intensive four-week high-protein plan to help her drop the pounds. She had to cut out most carbohydrates but the diet focused on keeping Billie fuller for longer, and she said she really noticed the difference in her body after completing the plan.
Billie - who is 5ft 4 - said: “My arms and thighs looked chubbier before I started and I had a bit of a belly. I wasn’t fat, but I did feel heavier.”
“Carbs were off the menu, which wasn't easy as I love bread and pasta. But after a few days I had more energy and when I could see the change in my body it was easier to stick to.”
“Instead of having crisps and biscuits with lunch, or Babybel cheeses, I’d have plain nuts or dried fruit.”
After four weeks on the plan, Bilie said: “I can see the weight-loss around my middle and face, and when I put on my knickers I don’t have an over-hang!”
“My energy levels are up so much and my skin is glowing, I feel really good about myself and more confident.”
