X Factor 2016 was shaping up to make a big comeback with Dermot O’Leary returning and replacing Caroline Flack and Olly Murs as presenter, and previous judges Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger returning to join Simon Cowell.

However, it has been revealed that Dermot and Simon might not make the first auditions in Leicester tomorrow.

According to The Sun, Simon is currently on bed rest as he is recovering from the flu, and Dermot has been struck by severe food poisoning.

Dermot was set to attend the Glamour Awards on Tuesday 7 with his wife Dee Kopang O’Leary, but had to stay home due to illness.

A source revealed: “Dermot is a regular guest at the Glamour Awards so his absence proved how ill he is.

“He was supposed to be at the auditions but it’s touch and go whether he will be well enough.”

And whilst it is touch and go for Dermot to make the auditions on June 9 at Leicester City’s King Power stadium, ITV bosses are unsure if head judge Simon will make them either.

The 56 year old was meant to attend the Together For Short Lives charity ball last week, who became a patron for the charity in 2009, but sent girlfriend Lauren Silverman instead due to a severe bout of flu.

“Simon is hopeful he can make it but is under the weather this week. He’s resting up,” the source added.

Simon recently opened up about fatherhood in an interview with People, and revealed that his son Eric, two, could be following in his footsteps.

Speaking about how Eric helps him to judge auditions, Simon said: “He’s brilliant, he comes down to the auditions and really enjoys the acts.

“He’s very good to watch, funnily enough, because I can see when he’s bored and when he’s up dancing. He’s a good critic already. He’s unpaid, but he’s helping me!”
