A lot has been made of Strictly Come Dancing contestant Danny Mac's previous experience in the dancing world, with some even going as far to suggest that he's not 'worthy' of his place in the final. Sigh.
However, even though Danny admitted he was a little gutted by the claims, when he was asked if he thought his previous dance training would deter people from voting for him in the final – he was happy enough to put the record straight once and for all.
Go Danny!
Speaking at the final ever Strictly press conference, Danny hit back at his critics: "People say that there’s this dance experience but I think everyone has varying degrees to what they must know. I can give you a full background of it if you like, it was three years at drama school and never before and never since.
"I don’t know if it will put me at a disadvantage, I guess we’ll find out. If that’s the case then that would be a shame. It would be 100% taking credit away from Oti and that wouldn’t be fair. All this is completely down to her and I was never going to be a dancer, it was never going to happen and I’ve never been employed as one.
"It was part of my training at drama school but if people want to believe that because they don’t want to vote for me then so be it there’s nothing I can do about it."
Dance training or not, we're not sure it matters when Danny put so much graft into every single one of his dance routines - especially his record breaking and incredibly sexy (we still have dreams about it) Samba.
The tribal-themed dance, that recieved straight tens from the judges, was the highest ever scored samba in the history of Strictly - and it's a moment that will stay with Danny forever.
"It was the first time I was myself on this show, just me and Oti having a party, and to achieve that on that night with Oti’s favourite song and her favourite style just cemented everything for us."
It also seems that Danny's fellow finalists, Louise Redknapp and Ore Obuda, aren't fussed by his dancing past either.
"We’ve had the most unlikely group of friends on a show, it’s unbelievable. I have the coolest whatsapp group in the world, it’s mad but it’s brilliant.
And even when people have left the show they’re still on the group sending us messages of support, there’s so many conversations going one – about life, sending pictures, everything! I’m so proud to be a part of it."
Touché.
