MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

Your boss hears every day from employees why they should be paid more money, don’t let a few too many mulled wines lead you into temptation.

TWO EARS ONE MOUTH

Use the Christmas party as an opportunity to keep your ear to the ground, listen to your boss talk to your colleagues and make a mental list of problems they are discussing. Use January as an opportunity to bring the solutions.

BE A PLAYER

The annual company party is a great opportunity to show who you are. Think about three messages about your personal brand you would like your boss to know by the end of the night. Maybe it’s demonstrating your commitment to the company, or an opinion on something happening at one of your competitors. Use the party to drop this into conversation with your boss.

JUST SAY NO

Despite the boss saying ‘the Christmas party is an opportunity for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves’ this is rarely the case. Your boss is always keeping an eye on who is drinking too much, who is being propped up at the bar and who is the first to get the jaegers in.

Follow some simple drinking rules:

  • Don’t drink too much at the reception

  • Line your stomach with all things beige

  • Don’t mix your drinks

  • Have a glass of water after every two glasses of wine

  • When the shots come out, just say NO.

SAVE PRINCE CHARMING FOR ANOTHER DAY

Now is not the time to get with the cute barman! Come back at the weekend. Never be tempted to pull in front of your boss– they might think it fun at the time but you’ll always be ‘that girl’ rather than the hot prospect for promotion.
