The Wanted star came third on the leaderboard following a dance-off against rivals Kellie Bright and Georgia May Foot last night.

But in a surprise turnaround, the 25-year-old was crowned winner following a vote from the public.

However not everyone was happy with the results, with one fan tweeting:

'Still cannot believe the Strictly final. Clearly it is a popularity contest and not a dance competition. #teamkellieandkevin.’

Others added:

Following news of his win, a rather stunned Jay responded:

'I feel spaced out and really weird. [Speaking to Aliona] You deserve it so much. I just think it was one of the most special things I've ever done with the most special person. Anyone who watched us and helped us get here... Thank you.'

Kelly Bright, who received a near-perfect score for her final dance, took the results with grace, retweeting BBC Eastenders producer Dominic Treadwell’s tweet reading:

"You're deffo my winners @kelliebright76 @keviclifton #Strictly.”

Congrats guys!
