Hollyoaks fans were left gobsmacked earlier this week when the true identity of Sally St Claire was revealed.
In episodes which aired on 14th March, Myra McQueen paid a visit to Hollyoaks High - presumably to meet up with her son, John Paul (James Sutton).
However she was left startled when she came face-to-face with Sally (Annie Wallace) - and recognised her as someone from her past.
We all knew that Sally had arrived in the village with an "ulterior motive”, but we never could have predicted that the transgender headmistress was, in fact, born Iain Naismith.
Yup, that name DOES sound familiar.
In fact, it's the very same name as John Paul’s father.
Speaking to Digital Spy about the shock twist, Annie Wallace said: “She's been keeping it a secret from John Paul because she's too scared of how he's going to react, but she's still tried to be in his company all the time."
Speaking about what fans can expect next, she teased: "I'm under no illusions that it's all going to go a bit mad from this point onwards, because it makes me an honorary McQueen and that changes the relationship with Hollyoaks completely now. But that's lovely, because it gives Sally roots there now.
"There's also a lot of story to be told now the truth has come out. There's a long way to go, because Myra is not going to sit back and let this happen.
“That starts this week, as she doesn't want Sally anywhere near John Paul. But we'll see - we know what soaps are like. A secret can't stay a secret forever!"
Isn’t that just the truth?
However, when it comes to whether or not John Paul will accept Sally as part of his family, there remains some uncertainty.
Speaking to Inside Soap, James Sutton said: “The fact that his father has had a sex change and has taken a job as his boss is just weird – I don’t think anyone would take that information well.”
Annie added to The Metro: "He’s bound to find out in the not too distant future – putting myself in his place, it might not be the revelation it might be like ‘I’ve been working with you and you kept this from me?’
"That might be the weirder thing than the actual revelation. He’s never known a dad – he thinks his dad was Ricky but he was never around – so he isn’t going to miss what he didn’t have."
While some fans have scoffed the storyline as ‘unrealistic’, Hollyoaks bosses have been praised for being so pioneering with LGBT storylines.
Annie - who is also trans herself - previously explained that the soap is doing everything it can to work with trans actors and actresses, as well as highlight issues faced by the LGBT community.
She told All Out radio at the time of her casting: “Hollyoaks got involved with a group called All About Trans [in a bid to find a trans actress].
“A series of workshops were created where they got about 30 people together in Liverpool. They weren’t just looking for one person – they were looking for an acting pool to see who’s out there.”
Paris Lees added to The Guardian: “Wallace has been acting on British television for the past five years in what we call ‘stealth’ – keeping your mouth shut about your transition. She felt she had to.
“In 2015 she’s changed her mind.”
It’s the latest in a string of LGBT plots on the soap – which recently set a storyline around a ‘Hollypride’ pride event.
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
