When Jesse Law (Don Gilet) lost his mother, it quickly became apparent that her death had affected him deeply.
And, in upcoming scenes, Holby City viewers will soon realise that the Consultant Anaesthetist is struggling to come to terms with his loss.
After bidding one last goodbye to his mum at her cremation, a troubled Jesse returns to the hospital to get back to work.
However he is shocked to find that his father, Thomas, has been admitted to Holby’s AAU after a fall.
It quickly becomes apparent that Jesse and his father share a troubled relationship - and, keen to avoid any emotional intimacy, the talented medic decides to leave his father alone on the ward.
When he bumps into Mo (Chizzy Akudolu), the surgeon reveals she is having troubles of her own; Sir Dennis has made a serious error with her mother’s medication, leaving Ina’s life hanging in the balance.
There's a 'Do Not Resuscitate' order in place, which is preventing her from performing the life-saving surgery that Ina needs - but Jesse, still feeling the pain of his own mum’s passing, encourages her to operate anyway.
With his words ringing in her ears, Mo decides to take matters into her own hands - but will she come to regret her choice?
Jesse, meanwhile, returns to the ward to check on Thomas, where he learns that his father has been refusing his diabetes medicine.
Thomas tells his son that he’s lost the will to live after losing his wife - causing Jesse to make a shock decision.
What has he decided to do? And how will the rest of the staff at Holby City react?
This episode of Holby City will air at 8pm on BBC One on Tuesday, 12th April.
