Michael Parr, who plays the bad boy, has addressed rumours he’s set to leave the show – insisting his words in a previous interview were taken out of context.

Speaking to Radio Times, the 29-year-old said: “We’re on annual contracts, so there are no guarantees. If they decide to kill me of or whatever, then that could happen before Charley [Webb, who plays Debbie Dingle] returns [from maternity leave].

“We’ve got a new producer in, Iain MacLeod, and he might hate Ross’s guts or me as an actor. I’m sure that’s not the case, but who knows.”

In the last year alone, Ross has embarked on an affair with his brother’s fiancée, been left for dead and was arrested for shooting Robert Sugden.

Now, with Charity Dingle, the mother of Ross’s baby, making a full-time return, things show no sign of slowing down for him.

Michael said: “Ross is really in over his head when it comes to Charity and I can’t see prison changing her.

Michael thinks viewers will be surprised by how Ross takes to parenthood

“My biggest fear is that Ross would reform. I like him the way he is. We have a few bad guys on the show, but Ross is just a bit more of a lad than the rest of them.”

But, while he will do his best to keep Ross the way he is, Michael did tease that viewers are going to be surprised about how he deals with the baby.

“At the moment, Emma [Ross’ mum] and Ross are getting very good at winding each other up,” Michael said. “But what his mum is doing is for Ross’s own good. She knows that Ross will regret it if he’s not in his baby’s life. And you’re going to be pleasantly surprised about how Ross takes to parenthood.”
