Emmerdale bosses made the decision to stop filming yesterday (Thursday 25th March) as a mark of respect after a beloved member of the crew sadly passed away.

Although the crew member was not named, a spokesperson for the popular ITV soap said, "We can confirm an Emmerdale crew member has very sadly passed away.

"Our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and loved ones of our colleague."

The sad news comes after the soap, along with every other TV show on the box, was forced to postpone filming last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Bosses released a statement for both Emmerdale and Coronation Street in mid-March, revealing production would stop from Monday 23rd March 2020 and the soap would go down to three episodes per week.

However, after a number of restrictions were lifted, production was able to resume with some socially distanced filming, until the soap was forced to temporarily shut down in January to undergo some 'intense cleaning' following an outbreak.

Emmerdale is now back up to six episodes per week, with the popular soap airing on ITV at 7pm.
