UPDATE: KAT AND ALFIE'S NEW HOME REVEALED
EastEnders boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins has shared the first look at Kat and Alfie's spinoff Redwater.
Based in Dunmore East, County Waterford in Ireland - it looks beautiful.
However it seems as if the stunning Irish location holds a deadly secret… and we’re not just talking about Kat’s missing son.
Shane Richie has finally opened up about Kat and Alfie’s EastEnders spin-off, and it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be the happy-go-lucky Irish holiday we were all hoping for.
While the six-part series features two of Albert Square's most recognisable faces, the drama is going to feel more like a horror movie than part of BBC One’s EastEnders.
And, while viewers were convinced the six-parter would end with the happy reunion between Kat and her long-lost son, Shane Richie has now hinted that the series could spell a dark finale for Mr and Mrs Moon.
The actor told This Morning: “We leave on screen and we’re not coming back as far as we know.
“That’s Kat and Alfie gone.”
Discussing the special in more detail, he also revealed: “I can’t tell you how exciting it is. It’s a real, dark story. When I was reading it, I kept thinking half-way through that Kat and Alfie have to get out of this village but they don’t.
“It’s a stand alone drama and nothing to do with EastEnders except for that it’s Kat and Alfie. A whole new universe has been created.”
And, as if THAT wasn’t enough to whet your appetites, Shane Richie has also let slip that the spin-off series feels an awful lot like classic 1973 horror flick, The Wicker Man.
Speaking to Digital Spy after the NTA Awards, Shane said: "It's a bit like Broadchurch meets The Wicker Man.
“I’ve read the first script - about a third of the way through I was going, 'No, Kat and Alfie, turn around, you should not be there'."
For those of you who haven’t seen The Wicker Man, it’s all about a police officer who travels to a remote Scottish island.
Once there, he learns that the villagers are all part of a pagan cult - and they burn him to death as part of a ritualistic sacrifice.
Yikes!
We really hope Shane is just messing with us; we’re not sure how we could handle a six-part horror series which ends with the deaths of two of our favourite ever EastEnders characters.
Will you be watching the Kat & Alfie spin-off?
