Max Branning, as EastEnders fans will already know, has been wrongly accused of Lucy Beale’s murder.

But, before we discover his fate, there are still a LOT of twists and turns on the cards.

For starters, we will watch as a guilty Jane Beale (Laurie Brett) take to the stand with a false story in a bid to clear Max’s name.

And, unsettled by how the case is progressing, Max will be seen taking matters into his own hands by making a rash decision that could change everything.

"Max just cracks," Jake Wood admitted to The Radio Times. "He doesn't think about the consequences or how it could affect things. It's very dramatic and there are lots of surprises."

Speaking about how he thinks his character would cope in prison, Jake added: “Max is a survivor and he would be okay, but it’s definitely out of his depth.

“He’s innocent and he’s there for the wrong reasons.

“Initially, he would probably struggle in jail but he would learn to cope if he's found guilty.”

However, when asked what sort of future Max could hope for if he is found innocent, Jake hinted that it wouldn’t be plain sailing.

“I hope he could get back to having a good relationship with his daughters and get back on his feet,” he said.

“He’s lost everything – he’s lost his house, the car lot and he’s got nothing to his name. He would have to start again and rebuild from the bottom.

“I’d like to see him get back on his feet.”

One thing’s for sure, with Jake Wood bowing out of the soap for a year-long break, we know that SOMETHING is going to inspire him to leave Albert Square.

But will he be heading to prison for a murder he didn't commit?

Or will he be disappearing on a holiday, in a desperate attempt to help him come to terms with the fact that BOTH of his daughters were prepared to see him go down?

EastEnders reveals Max's fate on Monday, September 28 at 8pm on BBC One.
